How much does a small business website cost in Australia?
Compare published Australian website prices, monthly and upfront payment models, ongoing costs and what happens when you leave.
The cost of a small business website in Australia depends on what it needs to do and how you pay for it. A one-page website with a monthly edit allowance is a different purchase from a larger project with copywriting, training or custom booking features.
The named examples below show prices published by the providers themselves. They are not an Australian average or a market-wide price range. Start with your page list and required features, then ask for a written quote that identifies ongoing charges.
Published prices cover different work
Prices checked on 15 October 2026. These are the providers' published offers, not independently verified service results. Netbound's figures can also be checked against its public package settings. Confirm the price, tax treatment and terms before buying.
| Provider and first-party source | Price checked | Starting price and payment model | Stated page scope | Stated commitment | GST status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Netbound website plans | 15 October 2026 | Basic A$49/month; first 30 days free and build fee currently waived | One page on Basic | Monthly, no lock-in contract | Not stated on the cited page |
| Soaringwebs pricing | 15 October 2026 | Solo A$100/month; site build included without a separate build fee | One-page hand-coded site | Cancel any month; no lock-in | GST inclusive |
| Free Websites Brisbane offer | 15 October 2026 | A$297/month after launch; no build charge | Not stated on the cited page | 12-month subscription, then month-to-month; 30 days' notice stated | Including GST |
| BEAL Creative pricing | 15 October 2026 | Standard website from A$3,990 as a project price; payment schedule: Not stated on the cited page | Not stated on the cited page | Not stated on the cited page | Not stated on the cited page |
The rows describe different work and commitments. For example, Netbound Basic has a 30-minute monthly edit allowance. Soaringwebs describes unlimited edits on Solo; ask that provider how its scope works. Free Websites states a 12-month commitment. BEAL lists training and three months of marketing advice with its website packages. Those differences matter alongside the headline price.
A published price may be a starting point rather than the cost of your brief. Ask for the page count and custom features in writing, including any work needed after launch.
Compare the total you will pay
For each quote, add the setup charge, the actual number of billed months and any annual renewals. Exclude a trial from the billed-month count only as the agreement specifies. Check when the trial and billing begin: payment setup and website launch can be different dates.
Here is a hypothetical arithmetic example, not a provider quote. Assume identical website scope solely to compare payment structures. Both options exclude domains and all extras, have no trial, and keep the same monthly price throughout:
| Hypothetical quote | Setup | Monthly charge | Total for 12 billed months | Total for 36 billed months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Setup plus monthly care | A$2,000 | A$25 | A$2,300 | A$2,900 |
| Monthly-only payment | A$0 | A$150 | A$1,800 | A$5,400 |
The calculation is setup plus monthly charge multiplied by billed months. It does not prove that two real services are equivalent or that either payment model is always cheaper. A real quote may change at renewal, require a minimum term or charge separately for features. This example does not calculate Netbound's first-year bill or assume its checkout schedule.
Domain renewals, email licences and booking subscriptions can also fall due annually. Put their renewal dates and charges beside the website quote so a monthly headline does not hide them.
Check what the recurring price includes
Ask the provider to separate the included work from optional or separately quoted work:
- Pages and content: the page limit, who writes the words and who supplies photos. Confirm the price of extra pages.
- Hosting and upkeep: where the site runs, backups, security updates and who responds if a form stops working.
- Edits: the monthly time allowance or request policy, how larger changes are quoted and whether unused time carries over.
- Domain and email: registration, renewals, mailbox charges and what happens to services you already use.
- Bookings and integrations: whether the site sends a request or confirms a booking, which provider handles it and any third-party fees.
- Search work: page titles, headings and technical setup versus ongoing content, outreach or advertising campaigns. A website setup service does not establish an ongoing campaign or promise rankings.
For Netbound, Basic includes one page and up to 30 minutes of monthly edits. Standard has up to five pages and 60 minutes; Pro has up to ten pages or equivalent agreed scope and 120 minutes. Hosting is included. Larger changes, apps and custom connections need their own agreed scope rather than an assumption that every feature fits the starting price.
Check ownership and leaving terms
Ownership, a licence to use something and the ability to move it are separate questions. A site can use licensed fonts or software even when you own the supplied text and photos. Code access alone may not provide the hosting setup or third-party accounts needed to run it elsewhere.
Before accepting a quote, ask what files and account access you receive if you leave. Confirm who controls the domain, whether forms keep working, what needs replacing and whether handover or migration attracts a charge. Read minimum-term and cancellation provisions as well as ownership wording.
Netbound code or content handover requires a written agreement and is governed by its terms and conditions, including section 7. A waived build fee does not automatically confer portable code ownership. Another provider's published ownership promise does not change Netbound's agreement.
Choose by scope and support
Before choosing, check that you can answer these questions from the quote:
- Which pages and customer tasks will the website support?
- What must you supply, and which content work is included?
- When do the trial, billing and any minimum term begin?
- What is the total over the period you expect to keep the website?
- Who handles later changes, and what are the allowance and response arrangements?
- What remains available to you when the service ends?
Read how Netbound website packages work for the package-specific allowances, or compare current Netbound plans and prices before choosing. Ask about uncertain scope before completing payment setup.
